Ultraviolet (U/V) tracers are specifically formulated to fluoresce under U/V light. This is where the commonly used commercial names come from: U/V tracers and U/V lamps.
True U/V light is invisible to the human eye, while the closest visible light is violet and then blue. The intensity of U/V light decreases as it shifts from invisible U/V to violet and then to blue.
Beware of mistaking high-intensity visible blue light for better performanceit might not emit true U/V wavelengths.

Thats why BLUE is not necessarily better
A properly tuned U/V lamp emits primarily invisible U/V light, with only a trace of visible violet or blue light. This small visible light helps direct the user’s eyes to the inspection area, while the invisible U/V light reveals the leak.
Lamps that emit a lot of visible blue light are marketed as more powerful, but actual U/V tracers require real invisible U/V rays to fluoresce.
With these high-blue-output lamps, special anti-blue glasses are needed to eliminate blue glare, or the strong light may obscure the fluorescent tracer or leak.
